I come before you today to let you know that Reverent has lost a good man. My friend Jason who played various characters includingthe mage Araa, and the paladin Cloudstriker, has passed away after a 3 month battle with cancer. He was a fine officer, a dedicated raider, a skilled strategist, a man of great humor with encyclopedic knowledge of the game, and a great friend.
I met him as Cloudstriker, a member of Cannonfodder, my very first guild. He was the second pally to level cap in Vanilla. He was the first pally on the server to finish his Tier 1. I remember him showing it off to me before they even put the model for it into the game. He looked kinda funny running around in gear that looked like blue tinted mail armor! He was a founding member of both Prophecy of Ascension and Imminent, and as such took part in many of the earliest raid boss kills on Thunderhorn. In later years he raided with my guild Reverent, and served us as an officer for several years through some very difficult times.
I owe Jason a great deal. He snuck me into some of those early trial nights on various bosses in Molten Core, igniting my love of raiding, and getting me some key raid experience. Without that experience I would never have been recruited to a raid guild (hunters got no love in vanilla), I would never have been promoted to officer, then raid leader, then guild leader. I would never have met all of the wonderful people I have formed friendships with over the years on Thunderhorn. Reverent guild would likely have disappeared within a year of its founding (8 years going strong this November!). In this way, he was more than just a friend, he changed my life, and the lives of many people who have called Reverent a home over the years. I suppose it just goes to show how one person might serve as a catalyst that can change so many things around them, often without really realizing it.
So today I ask you all to raise a mug of Direbrew in his name and perhaps remember any good times you might have shared with my friend. I also ask you all to enjoy the time you have with the people you care about. Sometimes they can disappear amazingly fast.
Per his wishes, we will be holding a gathering in memory of him on Wednesday, September 25, in Dalaran in the Beer Garden behind the Hero’s Welcome Inn at 7:30 server time.
The T-Shirt drive we arranged to raise funds for him will continue. All money made beyond the costs of the shirts will be sent to his family to help with their expenses. Please contact Noxveritas if you are interested, or have any questions.
